Mark Alexander Smith
Mark Alexander Smith is one of the founding partners of Smith Thompson Law LLP. He was admitted to the Alberta Bar in 2005 and carries on a diverse and exciting general litigation practice with a focus on personal injury, employment law, medical/dental malpractice, construction and insurance litigation.
Mark is very active in the legal community, a member of the Edmonton Bar Association and contributes regularly as a speaker and presenter for the Alberta Civil Trial Lawyers Association where he has been a board member since 2015 representing the Judicial District of Edmonton.
Mark is married and a proud father. When he is not up to his ears in alligators at the office, he enjoys time with his family and friends, fly-fishing and sipping bourbon.
Brian E. Thompson
Brian E. Thompson is one of the founding partners of Smith Thompson Law LLP. He was admitted to the Alberta bar in 2005 and the British Columbia Bar in 2013.
Brian was a partner at a well-established boutique insurance defence firm in Edmonton before leaving to help establish Smith Thompson Law LLP. Brian’s long history of representing many of Canada’s large insurance companies provides him with unique insight into the complexities of insurance litigation which in turn has been a great asset in representing clients in prosecuting their personal injury claims. Brian also carries on a general litigation practice focused on civil disputes.
Brian also provides solicitor services in real estate transactions for individuals, developers, and business owners.
When not practicing law, Brian can be found spending time with his young family or lacing up his running shoes. On occasion, he may also be found sipping bourbon with Mark.
J. Faye Garries
Faye, one of the partners, graduated from the University of Alberta law school and was admitted to the Alberta Bar in 2010. Faye has extensive experience in the area of personal injury litigation for clients that have suffered various complex injuries, including brain injuries. Faye also has experience in insurance litigation, employment disputes and professional negligence claims.
Faye is a strong advocate for her clients and while she believes that a negotiated settlement is ideal, she recognizes the need for and has great respect for the Court Process. Faye believes it is important for her clients to feel informed and respected throughout the process so they can feel confident about their options in pursuing compensation.
Peter M. Alexander
